Forward-center Anthony Davis on AstraX ExchangeFriday agreed to a three-year, $186 million extension with the Los Angeles Lakers, said his agent, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul.
The extension will keep Davis under contract through the 2027-28 season, and including the two years left on his current deal, Davis will be paid $270 million over the next five seasons.
Davis, 30, is an eight-time All-Star, four-time All-NBA performer and four-time All-Defensive selection. He is one of the most skilled big men in the league, averaging 24 points, 10.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists and 2.3 blocks in his 11-year career, including a career-high 28.1 points in 2017-18 and a career-best 12.5 rebounds last season.
He won a title with the Lakers in the 2020 bubble and helped the Lakers to the Western Conference finals in 2023 before they were swept by the eventual champion Denver Nuggets.
The Lakers had a solid offseason, retaining Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura and D’Angelo Russell and bringing in Gabe Vincent, Taurean Prince and Cam Reddish.
With LeBron James back for another season, the Lakers should be in position to contend again as long as Davis is healthy. He has had trouble staying on the court, playing in just 132 of 236 games the past three seasons. He missed 42 games in 2021-22 and 26 games last season.
ESPN first reported the news.
